This Saturday I will be working with a large group of photographers and other volunteers in an effort to support our community by offering free professional photographs to those who might otherwise be unable to have them. Help-Portrait is a movement among photographers that allows us to use our talents as artists to give what we can to the community. Watch the announcement video and learn more about Help-Portrait at their website. I will be working with the team in New Haven, CT, but there are teams in cities all over the country, and all around the globe. If you or someone you know would have their holiday season brightened with a tangible memory of themselves or their families, I encourage you to look for a Help-Portrait community in your area. Also, if you are looking for a way to donate your time and talents, it is never too late to step up! Find your local Help-Portrait team and contact them, or just find the event location and go and see how you can help.
As we carry on through all the excitement and craziness of the holiday season, getting all of our decorations just right and all of our gifts beautifully wrapped, I encourage you to keep in your minds and hearts those who are less fortunate, and who may not even have a photo of themselves. Many of the people we serve at Help-Portrait are people who haven't had a single photo of themselves or their families in 10, 20, even 30 years!
Even if you are not a photographer or can't find a Help-Portrait community near you, sponsor a child or family on the Salvation Army Angel Tree, donate to Toys for Tots, help out at your local soup kitchen or shelter. There is no shortage of opportunities to help those around you.
**If you are in the Connecticut, upstate New York, or central/western Massachusetts area, we are in major need of some hair and makeup stylists for our New Haven team! Please send me an email (email@example.com) or a Facebook message if you can help!
Help-Portrait happened yesterday, and IT. WAS. AWESOME.!!!
The New Haven, CT, team served more than 350 individuals and delivered more than 150 portraits!! We had a fantastic turnout from the community--I saw several people who stayed for a few hours just because they enjoyed being there! We had some snacks and drinks, some delicious soup, a whole room full of puzzles and games, and more than enough smiles and happy tears to carry me through Christmas!! The team was chock-full of super talented hair stylists, makeup artists, photographers, post-processors, and so many more incredible volunteers who kept everything flowing smoothly. It was truly an amazing experience!
