[soul food] awesomely awful
Cancel the cable, ya'll... we got a ping pong table! Oh wait, we've never had cable... well then, we should probably limit ourselves on primetime network shows and Netflix.
Anyway, we got a ping pong table! Eric grew up with a ping pong table, so he's pretty good. Since it's just the two of us right now, I'm the lucky opponent! Seriously? I. Am. TERRIBLE. But it has been a lot of fun playing anyway! Eric is teaching me technique, and he says I'm getting better (he has to say stuff like that--it's in his vows), but I haven't been able to get more than 5 or 6 points against him in any regular game we've played ever, even with him playing way under his skills.
I'm not one of those people who enjoys being mediocre at these things. Lasertag is the only other thing I can think of that I was terrible at and still had fun. But if there's one thing that I've learned from having a ping pong table, it's that there are other things to do besides watch TV. And also, I can still have fun doing different things, even if I'm no good.
I learned that this is approximately when I'm supposed to hit the ball:
This is usually where it ends up:
Then I go chase it all over the basement, trying to grab it before the dog snatches it up and crushes it immediately.
