[soul food] here's to my bff

Last week my BFF, Mel, came to visit me. All the way from Kansas City, MO! How lucky am I to have a pseudo-sister who would spend her hard-earned dollars on a plane ticket just to come spend her days off with me?! I know, totally. We have seen each other a total of TWO times in almost two years, and life was pretty hectic for us both of those times. Well... it is still hectic, but we carved out some chill time. Necessary. We kicked it in Boston last Saturday, which was awesome, because neither of us has been to Boston just for fun since 8th grade (which was 15 years ago, BTW). We cooked (some), we ate out (a lot), and we had fro-yo in February (twice). Girl time with my BFF is like free therapy (or I guess the cost of a plane ticket these days). It's a pause button on life, a breather from stress, a reminder of everything we've learned from each other in the past 10+ years, and a mirror of the part of me that never would have existed without her. I'm building a stash of greeting cards with those vintage photos of old ladies sitting together making hilariously inappropriate jokes, because someday that will be us.

So here's to my BFF...

for teaching me to let go and be myself in public... and to laugh at our craziness...

for taking a break with me to enjoy the sea, the view, the wind chill breeze...

for teaching me that look of total concentration right before you hit... absolutely nothing... because we just play pool to laugh about our total lack of skills...

For going on a mission with me to find another bathroom when the city sidewalk restroom rejects our quarter...

and for always being totally, awesomely, 100% you.

You rock. Love ya.
